1962 - The year that hockey was introduced to replace the Spring term football arrangements which was universally resented by all students. The new hockey pitch was duly marked out, new hockey goals and nets installed. The next morning at breakfast the Rector Fr Sweeney told us that we had until Supper that evening to cough up the culprits who dumped the hockey posts in the swimming pool!
When I was in Lake dormitory, we found a trapdoor in the floor. This led to a cavity which you could walk along under all the other dorms. We rigged up a suspended biscuit tin with pebbles in it under Ludlum dorm, tied to a rope which led back to Lake dorm. During the night we would pull the rope and rattle the tin. This spooked the kids in Ludlum and very soon a Prof was caning the lot of them for breaking the Magnum Silentium!
